Dr Mariam Ibrahim Al Mahmoud

Deputy Director General

Dr Mariam Ibrahim Al Mahmoud is the Deputy Director General at the Emirates Diplomatic Academy (EDA), since March 2020. Dr Al Mahmoud’s key responsibilities include the EDA’s strategy and planning procedures, such as, producing operational plans and work programmes of organisational units, assisting the Director General in producing and implementing strategic plans, as well as general policies.

As the Deputy Director General of the Academy, Dr Al Mahmoud’s role also includes assisting to shape, advance and drive the vision, mission and future direction of the EDA; liaising with senior leadership of various stakeholders in the UAE, including the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MoFAIC); assisting to initiate, maintain and strengthen links between the Academy and relevant professional and industry bodies, as well as assisting to maintain and enhance the academic standing of the EDA among diplomatic and foreign policy institutions worldwide.

Dr Al Mahmoud joined the EDA in 2015, as the Director of the Executive Training Department. In this role, she worked to establish and support the strategic and operational priorities of the EDA executive training programme. Dr Al Mahmoud undertook a wide variety of activities and initiatives for the successful launch of the executive training programme in 2015.

Prior to her role at the EDA, Dr Al Mahmoud held several government roles in the UAE, including, Director for Education and Training and Official Spokesperson at the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR), in Abu Dhabi from 2011 to 2015. In this role, Dr Al Mahmoud implemented and oversaw the Knowledge Management Programme, while also representing FANAR and the UAE at various nuclear energy conferences, locally and internationally.

Dr Al Mahmoud received her Doctorate in Business Administration from UAE University in 2019, and Master of Business Administration from Zayed University in 2011. In 2007, she received her Master of Education degree, specialising in Educational Leadership, and in 2003, she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Communication and Media from Zayed University. Dr Al Mahmoud has received various prestigious awards and recognitions during her extensive career.
