Dr Mari Luomi

Senior Research Fellow

Dr Mari Luomi is Senior Research Fellow at the Emirates Diplomatic Academy (EDA). Specialising in politics and political economy of natural resources and the environment, she is an expert on international climate politics, and climate and energy policy in countries of the GCC region. 

Dr Luomi has worked as Research Associate and Saudi Aramco Fellow at the Oxford
Institute for Energy Studies in the UK, Post-Doctoral Fellow at Georgetown University in Qatar, and Researcher at the Finnish Institute for International Affairs. As part of a team of thematic experts, she has provided independent on-site reporting from intergovernmental negotiations on climate change, and has written hundreds of news stories on multilateral developments in the fields of climate change and sustainable energy policy globally.

Dr Luomi’s research publications include a broad range of working and briefing papers, academic journal articles, essays, books and book chapters. She is also the co-editor of the recently published volume ‘The Green Economy in the Gulf' (Routledge 2015).

Dr Luomi holds a PhD in Middle East Politics from Durham University in the UK in addition to a master’s degree in Political Science and International Politics with a specialisation in Middle East Politics from the University of Helsinki in Finland.
