The Emirates Diplomatic Academy (EDA) celebrated the completion of its inaugural training programme designed to impart critical skills and insights to the defense officers of the UAE’s Armed Forces, who serve the UAE’s foreign policy objectives in their missions abroad.
The ceremony that took place in the Academy’s Sheikh Zayed Hall, drew the participation of representatives of the UAE Armed Forces and EDA faculty.
Handing out the certificates to the participants, Omar Al Bitar, Vice President, EDA, who has to his credit an extensive and distinguished military career, said: Our mission at the Academy is to build the capabilities that support the objectives of the UAE’s foreign policy by delivering high impact training and disseminating research and thought leadership that furthers the understanding of diplomacy and international relations. During the past few years the Academy has worked on expanding its efforts to go beyond the primary objective of creating a successful generation of diplomats, but also to provide employees of government entities with the necessary knowledge and skills to become the best representatives of their country abroad. "
He also added: “We are extremely honoured to be working with the UAE Armed Forces and assisting their mission to defend the nation and contribute to international security. Our military fulfills a vital role in securing solid national foundations for economic growth and the continued prosperity that so many of us enjoy. And today, we celebrate with pride the graduation of our brave soldiers and their completion of the program’s requirements, wishing them further progress and success and prosperity. "
The customised three-week programme and the ceremony were organised by the Academy’s Executive Training and Student Affairs Department, which actively encourages experienced foreign affairs professionals to join its specialised short courses.
Mariam Al Mahmoud, Director of the Executive Training and Student Affairs Department, said: “The Emirates Diplomatic Academy seeks to effectively combine academic training with practical aspects of international relations and diplomacy. EDA has launched this specialised training course to assist military attachés to make informed strategic decisions based on global best practices once they return to their missions abroad.”
Speaking on the programme's positive outcomes, a participant said: “I am grateful to the Academy for this fine opportunity that has furthered my career development. This programme provided me with practical training that built on my knowledge of diplomacy and global affairs. The insights gained from this course will stand us in good stead when we return to our duties representing the UAE around the world.”
