The Emirates Diplomatic Academy, EDA, the nation’s international relations and diplomacy, academic, training, best-practice and research institution, welcomed His Excellency Ambassador William J. Burns, President of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and former U.S. Deputy Secretary of State.
As a guest lecturer for the new ‘21st Century Diplomacy’ lecture series, Ambassador Burns conducted an interactive one-hour session with the EDA Students on diplomacy’s role in a changing international landscape.
EDA’s ‘21st Century Diplomacy’ course is a platform to prepare future Emirati diplomats and civil servants for the demands of today’s fast-changing world and new opportunities and challenges.
Welcoming Ambassador Burns, Bernardino León, President of EDA, said: “His Excellency William Burns possess a wealth of experience. Not only did he faithfully serve his country for 33-years, entrusted with various positions within the American diplomatic corps, he holds the highest rank in the Foreign Service. Today’s lecture showcases the EDA’s commitment to pioneer new diplomatic approaches, instil best practices and empower the next generation of UAE nationals to become the leading diplomatic corps of tomorrow whilst maintaining the UAE’s leading role in foreign policy.”
