On 18 April, the Emirates Diplomatic Academy hosted a roundtable discussion on Global Energy Trends and their Implications for the United Arab Emirates, with Maria van der Hoeven, former Executive Director of the International Energy Agency, as the key speaker.
The event brought together representatives from various government entities and research institutions for a solutions-oriented conversation. The discussion focused on the topics of global energy governance and the low oil price environment, and what these mean for the UAE.
Speaking after the event, which was the first in its kind organised by EDA, Director of Research Phil Dufty said “we were delighted to be able to bring together a diverse range of experts who work on similar issues but who do not always get the chance to interact and share ideas on important global issues.”
“There was a rich and vibrant discussion, which enabled us to identify a number of key gaps in the architecture of global energy governance, and to share views on some of the major global energy challenges, including oil market stability, and financing and managing the global energy transition,” he stated.
