Director of Department

Job Objective

  • Assist in the effective and efficient management of departmental programs and administrative affairs.
  • Contribute to the creation of an environment conducive to intellectual and research growth.
  • Provide individualized administrative support and attention to the Department Director.
  • Assist in the development of strong linkages, support department and add value.
  • Maintain Department confidentiality.


Key Responsibilities/Duties

 Strategy and Planning

  • Assist the Department Director with Department’s governance, general administrative support, answer questions, provide information, manage orientation, train and relocate new staff.
  • Assist in the administrative duties of the Department, including assisting in financial management and operations.
  • Assist in the management of space and resources needs of the Department in cooperation with appropriate academy authorities.
  • Contribute to the development of mutually beneficial linkages with industry in order to develop partnerships and collaborative research.
  • Guide the administrative activities of the Department.
  • Aid the Department Director in representing the interests of the Department internally with senior academic administration.
  • Prepare correspondence, memos emails, letters, reports, spreadsheets, documents files etc.
  • Implement and follow EDA’s policies, guidelines, laws and regulations.
  • Schedule and hold individual meetings as designated by the Department Director.
  • Manage, maintain and organize Department files and personnel records.
  • Maintain the calendar and schedule, including scheduling of appointments and meetings.
  • Monitor and track department funds and assist in the preparation of the department’s annual budget when required.
  • Plan, coordinate and promote Department events.

Job Specification


  • Minimum Bachelors in Business Administration or relevant field from a reputable/internationally accredited university.
  • Master’s degree is preferred.


Relevant Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a public or private sector education environment.
  • A proven record of performance in providing support and assistance to managers within the education industry.
  • Professional background of academic training and/or experience.



  • Highly organized, punctual and responsible.

  • Ability to prioritize work on agreed deadlines.
