Dr Murhaf Jouejati

Professor of International Relations

Dr Murhaf Jouejati is Professor of International Relations at the Emirates Diplomatic Academy (EDA), Scholar at the Middle East Institute in Washington, US, and Chairman of The Day After association. He is an expert on Middle East political affairs with a focus on politics of the Levant.

Before joining EDA, Dr Jouejati was a Professor of Middle East Studies at the National Defense University Near East South Asia (NESA) Center for Strategic Studies in Washington. In addition, he taught at the George Washington University (GWU) and at the American University in Washington, and served as the Director of Middle East Studies at GWU Elliott School of International Affairs. Prior to that, he was Advisor to the Delegation of the European Commission to Syria, to the Syrian delegation during the Syria-Israel peace talks, and to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Regional Bureau for Arab States in New York. Earlier, he worked as the UNDP National Program Officer for Syria.

Dr Jouejati is a prolific writer on Middle East politics and a frequent guest in the international media. On several occasions, he provided expert testimony before the 9/11 Commission and the US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations. 

Dr Jouejati holds a PhD in International Relations and Political Science from the University of Utah and a master degree in Arab Area Studies from Georgetown University in the US.
